Episode 48:
Naruto accuses Sai of being a traitor but he tells him to calm down in case he creates a commotion. Sakura hands back Sai’s unfinished book to him and asks what Danzou is planning with Orochimaru. When Yamato brings up the theory that Danzou wants to destroy Konoha, Sai denies it but gets stopped when Naruto warns him that they already know that smile of his is fake. Sai doesn’t try to deny this since he figures that there’s no point in lying when they’ve come this much to the truth. He informs that his plan is now a failure since he can’t defeat them all here.

Episode 49:
Just as Yamato, Naruto and Sakura are about to leave, Kabuto appears and they break into a fight. Soon Kabuto realizes that he’s unable to defeat the lot of them, so he releases Sai. After expressing how sympathetic he feels towards Naruto, Kabuto is thrown to the ground by Sai. Sai explains his action for wanting to change and notes that some things like the bond he has with his brother will never change. Yamato uses the same technique he used on Sai to bound Kabuto together. Naruto still feels uncertain towards Sai so Sai goes on telling them that he wants to see Naruto and Sasuke’s bond. Kabuto starts laughing, saying that they don’t know what Sasuke’s become all this time.
